Established in 1905 Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. In less than 100 years Las Vegas has undergone an amazing transformation from a small stopover point on the western railroad into one of the most visited cities on the planet. |

| Rafael Rivera was the first non-Indian known to set foot in oasis-like Las Vegas valley in early 19th century. Its abundant artesian waters and avid vegetation are responsible for the modern name of the oasis city Las Vegas (Spanish for meadows). In 1855 Las Vegas experienced big Mormon influx. The remaining of Mormon Temple can still be seen now on Las Vegas Boulevard. In late nineteen hundreds the rapid railroad development has started. In 1904 the tent town called Las Vegas was hosting many saloons, boarding houses and stores. Many legends surround the actual history of “The Strip”. |
